Cllr. David Andrews

Vice-Chair

Member of the following committees:

Planning, Environment, Finance and General Purposes, Staffing sub-committee

About David:

I have owned Long Ashton Village Shop & Post Office for the last 12 years. The business, like long Ashton itself, has gone through many changes.

I speak and listen to a large number of people on a daily basis and like to think I have a good understanding about people's thoughts on Long Ashton, both good and bad. I want to bring what I hear, and my wealth of experience in running successful businesses, to the Council to help drive it forward to make a better Long Ashton for all.

Member of the following committees:

Environment, Finance and General Purposes

About Colin:

I have lived in Long Ashton for 14 years with my wife, and children. I have two older children who have now moved away, a child at Birdwell Primary School and a toddler.

I worked in the IT world for over 30 years, most of which was for IBM where I had a variety of sales and marketing roles. In 2019 I took early retirement to focus on my new family, developing some new skills, and spending time giving back to the community I have spent so long in. I became a Parish Councillor early in 2020, and now have an active role including being Chair of the Environment Committee. I have a passion about making Long Ashton a really wonderful village to live in, and hope I can play my part in making that a reality.

About Chris Davis

I've lived in Long Ashton for 15 years. My professional background is in engineering, company management, being a church/charity trustee and management consultancy. This has given me a wide range of advisory and executive skills and experience which I will bring to the Parish Council. I have campaigned on planning and community facilities, and my interests include energy policy and practice, the environment, and encouraging people to be involved. Long Ashton is a great place to live, and my hope is to help continue to develop facilities and a strong sense of community through visionary administration of the parish.

I moved to Long Ashton in June 2021 and immediately felt the sense of identity it has. I have recently finished working in the realms of restoration and conservation with WWF, RSPB and the National Trust and wanted to get involved in my local area, to ensure we are doing our part to future proof our environment that we all rely on for clean air, water and our mental wellbeing. I am also aware that a councillor's role is to support ongoing and new projects that aren't nature focused but are still beneficial to ALL members of Long Ashton and Leigh Woods.

Cllr. Debbie Wilkinson

I have lived locally all my life and in Long Ashton since 2006. I absolutely love our village.

I was fortunate to be co-opted on the Parish Council in the summer of 2024 and will bring my financial background and personal attributes to the team for the benefit of our community.

My experience is community involvement for children, youth and seniors. Before 2019 I managed a team of 50 volunteers. Every week we organised activities, lunch and entertainment for seniors. Previously I taught in the Netherlands, then moved to England and led youth and children's work, and holiday clubs for 100+ children for 6+ years.

Amanda Barrett moved from Clifton to Long Ashton twenty years ago. With her natural history film-making background plus wide-ranging contacts in conservation and natural history together with ecosystem restoration, regenerative farming and land management, she is keen to help the local community and Long Ashton Parish Council fulfil its obligations in mitigating the adverse impacts of biodiversity loss and climate change.

I moved to Long Ashton in 2022 with my wife and have recently become a new dad. We have both joined Long Ashton Growers and love the sense of community. You may also see me running on all the beautiful trails around here! I work as a design researcher in energy software and was previously a filmmaker. I joined the council as I care about climate change and its impacts at a local level. As a new councillor I hope to learn more about what matters to everyone here and help ensure it continues to be a great place to live.

Local Government Association (LGA) Model Councillor Code of Conduct 2020

The role of councillor across all tiers of local government is a vital part of our country's system of democracy. It is important that as councillors we can be held accountable and all adopt the behaviors and responsibilities associated with the role. Our conduct as an individual councillor affects the reputation of all councillors. We want the role of councillor to be one that people aspire to. We also want individuals from a range of backgrounds and circumstances to be putting themselves forward to become councillors. As councillors, we represent local residents, work to develop better services and deliver local change. The public have high expectations of us and entrust us to represent our local area, taking decisions fairly, openly, and transparently. We have both an individual and collective responsibility to meet these expectations by maintaining high standards and demonstrating good conduct, and by challenging behaviour which falls below expectations. Importantly, we should be able to undertake our role as a councillor without being intimidated, abused, bullied, or threatened by anyone, including the general public. This Code has been designed to protect our democratic role, encourage good conduct and safeguard the public's trust in local government.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has developed this Model Councillor Code of Conduct, in association with key partners and after extensive consultation with the sector, as part of its work on supporting all tiers of local government to continue to aspire to high standards of leadership and performance. It is a template for councils to adopt in whole and/or with local amendments. All councils are required to have a local Councillor Code of Conduct. The LGA will undertake an annual review of this Code to ensure it continues to be fit- forpurpose, incorporating advances in technology, social media and changes in legislation. The LGA can also offer support, training and mediation to councils and councillors on the application of the Code and the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and the county associations of local councils can offer advice and support to town and parish councils.
